In Social Studies we are learning about different cultures.
We learned about Kente Cloth. It is a hand woven cloth originally made by the Ashanti people in the west African country of Ghana. It has become a colourful symbol of African culture, now loved and worn by many.
First, we glued the green and gold strips onto the red one.
Second, we weaved the blue strips across.

When we finished that we trimmed the ends.

Last, we added decorations with a black felt marker.

 They are beautiful!!!!

Miss Wong, our student teacher from UBC has been with us this week. She is quickly getting to know the class and our routines.
We all enjoyed listening to the great stories she has read to us.

This week we thought about friends who have shown us random acts of kindness. We wrote about them on paper hearts and then they were put up on the tree in front of the office.

Then we thought about what we could do to be kind to others.

Remembrance Day

We had our Remembrance Day assembly on Thursday. I was so proud of all the students. They were well behaved and respectful in the gym.

All About Peace

Our writing this week was based on The Peace Book by Todd Parr.

We learned to draw poppies, outlined them with a black marker, then we coloured them using a number of crayons so it looked like different shades of red. Finally we painted the background with black paint.

Everyone worked so hard on their colouring.

 Beautiful poppies!

STEM this week.
We made a comfy place for a hamster. So many fantastic ideas and great team work.
